Piney Point / Shady Lane - Neighborhood Information

Two of the more exclusive neighborhoods in Houston, Piney Point Estates and Shady Lane Estates, actually share what was once just one crop of land, near what is now Fondren and Westheimer.

Back then (over a century and a half ago), the 4000+ acres that make up Piney Point Estates and Shady Lane Estates was farmland. Today, you could say that it's a bit more settled now, but the spirit of the serenity that comes with living in the country has been kept alive at Piney Point Estates and Shady Lane Estates.

Piney Point Estates was the first of the two to have homes built on it. That age is reflected in some of the properties still located there today, but nearly all have been updated, and there has been a lot of new construction at Piney Point Estates as well. That mix of new homeowners and those who have been there for generations at Piney Point Estates makes for an updated, modern community that still stays true to its roots and the goal of country-like city living.

Shady Lane Estates is a bit different in that its private surroundings can also be attributed to the fact that it is a gated community. Also, the fact that Shady Lane Estates backs up to Buffalo Bayou goes a long way in keeping traffic away from this secluded neighborhood.

Piney Point Estates and Shady Lane Estates are quite different neighborhoods, to be sure, but their similarities lie in the tall, whispering pines towering over their fresh-cut lawns, the sprawling horseshoe driveways leading up to their handsome estates and the desire of Houstonians to make their home in these hidden gems in the city.
